The Challenge
BD&J Injury Lawyers is one of the most respected law firms on the West Coast. When they moved their headquarters into an all‑glass building right off the 405 Freeway, they had a simple but huge goal:
Make their name visible and memorable from one of the busiest roads in the U.S.
That means visibility, brightness, and design that stands out – without looking cheap.
Strategy & Planning
We drove up to Santa Monica to survey the building in person. We got up on the roof, walked all around, and checked how the view lines work – especially from the freeway.
Only three of the four building sides were approved for rooftop signs in Santa Monica, so we mapped exactly which elevations would get the signage. We also measured how far the traffic is, what angles drivers see, and what lighting would make the sign pop day & night.
Design & Engineering
This job required more than just attaching letters to glass.
- We removed select glass panels and replaced them with new ones already cut with holes for power wiring and structural mounting points.
- Built a strong frame (stringers) to support the letters in a way that wouldn’t stress the glass curtain wall and keep it from caving in.
- Designed the letters so they could be brought up safely, mounted securely, and look sharp even from a distance.
Fabrication & Installation

Because visibility was key, BD&J wanted LED lighting that could change colors for holidays and events. We installed weather‑proof, high‑quality LED systems built to last outdoors.
Meanwhile, the physical install was tight and precise:
- Using a swing stage lift, team members moved each letter from ground level up the side
- The letters were anchored to the stringers and tested for alignment, stability, and finish.
Outcome
Now, the BD&J sign makes a statement worthy of their brand name.
- Drivers on the 405 see it clearly from over half a mile away.
- The glass building + clean typography + backlighting = prestige + visibility
- The sign lasts, works, and attracts attention: exactly what a prestigious company like BD&J wanted
